Things to see and do in Dunmore East.

There are no shortage of  delightful activities and hobbies to relax and refresh you during your holiday here in this little  corner of the sunny south east.

Counsellors strand is a blue flag beach, sheltered and safe for swimming or just a nice place to relax and enjoy a picnic.

There are plenty of water sports available at the Adventure Centre, based at the Harbour.

Sea angling is particularly popular here and you can pursue this hobby by chartering a boat from Dunmore East Angling Charters.

Just wander westwards along the coast from the beach at Counsellor’s strand taking in the little pebble coves, the Anglo-Norman castle ruin, the colony of kittiwakes, the park with its fine old trees, the former summer home of the Malcomsons (now the Haven Hotel), the lovely old church with it’s tall spire, the many yachts moored in the coves,  the multi-coloured fishing boats and eventually you will arrive at the harbour.  The harbour is the second busiest fishing port in the country and there are weekly fish auctions held there.  It is fascinating to watch the variety of fresh fish on display at these auctions.  The harbour is also the location of the Lifeboat Station.

If you fancy a bit of exercise and fresh air, combined with breathtaking scenery, why not try your hand at a game of golf on the Links course, just overhead the beach at Dunmore East.  Other excellent golf courses within 15 kilometres include Faithlegge Golf and Country Club, Waterford Castle Golf Club, Waterford Golf Club, Williamstown Golf Club, Tramore Golf Club and the world famous Mount Juliet Golf Course is about an hours drive away.

Waterford is known the world over for its cutglass and crystal.  There are regular daily tours of the factory and you can view the enormous range of exquisite glass at the showrooms in Waterford city.

Horse riding, cycling (up hills and down!), open gardens, outdoor markets, open farms, surfing the Atlantic waves, checking out our heritage, shopping, cinema and cultural events are all available within a 15 kilometre radius.

Whether you like to walk amongst the bluebells in the cool of the woods, on the long sandy beaches at Tramore and Woodstown, across the cliff top from Dunmore Harbour to Portally Cove – the choice is all yours!
